Beef Cattle
Spring Valley Ranch has been raising high quality Black & Red Angus and SimAngus cattle since their reintroduction in 2008. Over the course of the ranch's history it was home to 300 head of mother cows in its hey-day. Today, the beef herd is a collection of home raised, locally grown and outside cattle from South Dakota, Idaho, and Nebraska.
Spring Valley Ranch takes raising cattle seriously and has become a member of the Iowa Cattlemen's Association. You can find their link to their website by going to https://www.iacattlemen.org/. You can also find them on Facebook at Iowa Cattlemen's Association.
This is a great association that has a presence of approximately 10,000 membership which collectively provides Iowa cattle producers a voice on different levels of legislative platforms as well as education opportunities.
Matt is an alumni participant of Iowa Cattlemen's Young Cattlemen's Leadership Program. This has been an outstanding opportunity to grow knowledge about the industry, its impacts on a local and global level and to network with other young cattlemen in the state of Iowa. Leadership and advocacy training is also part of this experience. Matt volunteered his time to help at the 2015 and 2016 Iowa Governor's Charity Steer Show which raised funds from the sale of the show cattle for the Ronald McDonald House.
In November 2017, Matt and Cassie earned Clayton County Cattlemen Young Producer of the Year Award for their outstanding contributions to raising quality beef.
In 2019 Matt earned a position within the Iowa Cattlemen's Association to serve as a board of directors as well as Vice Chair of the Cattle Production Committee. He will also be serving as the Clayton County Cattlemen's President for 2019- 2021.
In May of 2019, Matt went on a 10 day Young Cattleman's Conference tour, hosted by NCBA and sponsored by Iowa Cattlemen's Association, spanning over three stops including Denver, Colorado, Chicago Illinois, and Washington, D.C.. This trip was a collaboration of understanding the beef industry on a national level, including cattle production, processing and legislative action that directly affects the beef industry.
